Working Fast and Staying Safe: Erecting Steel at Mirror Lake Elementary School

The Mirror Lake Elementary School is in the midst of a major upgrade. The brand-new building is located in Federal Way, WA. It’s been designed to give the school more room, additional functionality, and the ability to be more secure. Though things were running smoothly at the beginning of construction, as often happens when unforeseen circumstances show up, the project was threatening to fall behind pace.

At that point, Evergreen Erectors contacted our crane services crew. They called on our services to help safely accelerate the steel erection at the new building, and help the general contractor get back on track with a very tight timeline.

You Can’t Control the Weather

Winter had not done any favors for this construction site. Lots of wind and rain had made for difficult conditions at the site. Sometimes it ended up halting progress altogether. As a result, the project was running three months behind schedule. This meant the timeline for getting the steel erected was extremely tight in order to get back on schedule.

Our team brought in a highly qualified crane operator and equipment to provide hook service for the Evergreen Erectors crew. Though meeting the schedule was a priority, we were committed to bringing pace without compromising any of the rigorous safety standards to which both Evergreen Erectors and Omega Morgan are fully dedicated.

Making Good Time

Our crew used a 115-ton Grove Truck-Mounted Crane to lift the steel for attachment to the building structure. It wasn’t long before the threat of another delay began to loom: the steel fabricators were battling supply and demand challenges, which often called into question the on-time delivery of the steel to the site. Despite all of the time crunches, the teamwork between Evergreen Erectors and Omega Morgan got the job done well ahead of the already tight schedule. This type of job would normally take four to five weeks. Our composite team pulled together and completed the work in three and a half weeks. No safety incidents, no compromises. Just hard and skillful work.
