Omega Morgan machinery moving team and crane lifting a large power skid into a building

Omega Morgan’s machinery moving specialists were recently called upon by Modular Power Solutions (MPS), an electronic manufacturing company that required assistance to lift and move a number of power skids into the newly constructed JE Dunn Data Center in Hillsboro, OR.

Our Portland-based equipment movers faced an interesting challenge: the skids needed to enter the building through a 12-foot wide opening in the second story of the building, however the width of the power skids plus the rigging equipment needed to place them only left a little over an inch of clearance. Conventional methods for this move would prove ineffective for this kind of space constraint–both from a time and cost perspective.

Given the tight margin of space, our crews came up with an innovative solution. We used a 200-ton crane to lift the skids and “drift” them into the building without the use of scaffolding or platforms. Once the skids were through the opening, our crews helped move the power skids through the building to an electrical room where they could finish being installed.

Though not the way these types of moves are usually done, this unique process allowed us to efficiently work inside of the space constraints and ultimately provide cost-savings to our client.

Omega Morgan is pleased to have had the opportunity to serve MPS on this interesting move, and to provide the reliable machinery moving expertise that our company is known for.
