Summary
We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Warehouse Lead to oversee the day-to-day operations of our outdoor crane yard. This position will provide hands-on leadership to yard personnel while coordinating the safe movement, loading, unloading, staging, inspection of components to be handled, and preparation of cranes, rigging equipment, and related materials.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge and practical experience with rigging and lifting operations, and a solid understanding of logistics and material movement. This individual must be organized, safety-minded, able to prioritize competing demands, and comfortable working both in the yard and in an office environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and coordinate daily activities of yard personnel.
- Plan and prioritize yard operations to ensure equipment and materials are properly staged and available when needed.
- Oversee the safe loading, unloading, movement, and storage of customer equipment, cranes, rigging equipment, and other materials.
- Apply strong working knowledge of rigging, lifting practices, load handling, and rigging equipment.
- Ensure rigging equipment and other materials are properly inspected, maintained, tagged, stored, and organized.
- Coordinate equipment movements and yard logistics to maximize efficiency and minimize delays.
- Work with management and logistics coordinators to ensure shipping and receiving deadlines are met.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment, inventory, inspections, and yard activity.
- Identify potential safety hazards and ensure safe work practices are followed throughout the yard.
- Train, coach, and mentor yard employees in proper work practices, equipment handling, and safety procedures.
- Monitor employee performance and provide direction and accountability when necessary.
- Assist with scheduling and coordinating incoming and outgoing equipment and deliveries.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient yard.
- Operate or assist with the operation of applicable material-handling equipment as needed and qualified.
- Communicate equipment status, shortages, damage, maintenance needs, and other issues to management.
- Use Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and other company systems, to maintain records, communicate, and support daily operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a foreman, lead, or supervisory role, preferably in a crane, rigging, heavy equipment, construction, industrial, or transportation environment.
- Strong, demonstrated knowledge of rigging and lifting operations.
- Experience with inventory management or equipment tracking systems.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to safely perform physical tasks associated with a heavy-equipment yard.
- Experience working with cranes, crane components, heavy equipment, or specialized transportation.
